Title: Completely delete programs (itunes) in Vista
Post by: tpolcha on October 01, 2009, 10:07:21 AM
Vista 64 bit Home Prem.

I used Programs and Features to remove what itunes programs and files it listed.  I want to start all over with itunes.

I know there are more itunes programs and files to remove that are not listed in P&F because I downloaded more; itunes 64 bit v8 and v9.

I don't know why both programs where not listed in P&F.

What is the next proper way to locate everything related to itunes in order to remove them.

Thanks,

Tom

Each new version of iTunes uninstalls any previous version it finds before installing. If you uninstalled via Pgms & Features you should be fine.

Hm... are you saying you uninstalled iTunes, but found stuff laying around?

This is normal. When you remove iTunes, it leaves behind preference files for your librarys and settings, so when you reinstall it, you can quickly resync.

Well I don't know (because all programs were not listed in P&F) what programs I removed and which programs and or files remain.

I just tried to start itunes and get this error messgage:

The file "ituunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes.

This err msg started after I downloaded v8 on top of v9.  I obviously should hafe remoed v9 first but I couldn't find it to remove it.

This is why I want to remove everything that is associated with itunes so I can start all over.

Thanks again.

T

I have to leave for work and check back in late tonight to see what new idea's you may have about removing all associated programs versions for sure.

Well why are you trying to install an earlier version?

Never mind, none of my business. You can just go into the itunes folder and delete all files if you like. It's in \Users\username\music\itunes

yup, system restore. Other than that, you would have to go in and manually delete everything iTunes put into the registry yourself.

You can also try install iTunes 9 again, and replace whatever iTunes 8 took out.

If that doesn't work, you might be looking at a clean install dude.

I can use that path to remove all files in itunes but I need to remove all programs.

To answer one question from one responder; I first downloaded v9.  I couldn't get it to work.

I figured v9 would do the trick.

I wondered if there was a incompatibility problem with itunes v9 64 bit and an ipod that was about a year old so I downloaded v8 on top of that.

Hense I get the error message and need to make sure I remove all programs from the registry.

Is this my only way and how do I go about safely.  I have no experience (obviously) with 64 B Vista.  Teach me how to delete items from the registry properly and or maybe use HiJackThis to delete registry items.

Then I will start all over after I get advise on how to use itunes and my PC. a thread I started in the apple forum.

Hope I answered all your questions this time.  Thanks again, Tom

What do you mean all programs? Itunes is itunes - one program. And if I were you I'd post on the Apple forum and see why you can't get ver 9 to work before fighting this battle to get v8 installed.

Or you could give Revo Uninstaller a try as well...
