Title: Nobel Peace Prize for President Obama??
Post by: 2x3i5x on October 12, 2009, 02:55:31 PM
Is President Obama worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize, at least, so early in his Presidency?  :o

No.
The voting took place after less than a Month in office...11 days to be exact.

It's a political move by the Nobel committee plain and simple.

The only republican president to get one was Roosevelt. If your a high profile democrat with a cause then they give you one. The only dem. president or ex president not to get one (yet) is Clinton. Even Al Gore got one. All he's really accomplished is a lot of lobbying...

I dont think he deserves it because he is insane and wants to make school longer.  I think I just might move to canada if he does.

Obama was elected 11 days before the cutoff date for the awards. He "deserves" it because he says he's going to do things. He also is telling the USArmy to stay fighting.

He deserves it 11 days after being elected ? ?
Please list in order the great accomplishments that took place in those 11 days and changed the World to the extent that the prize was justified...

I'll wait...

I think everyone, including President Obama, agrees he has not yet earned the prize. I'm just hoping this doesn't turn into a highly political thread. Or one that bases the Nobel Peace Prize on the length of a school year or because "He also is telling the USArmy to stay fighting" (please - don't even bother trying to explain that to me ;D ).

It's strange that Obama received an award after such a short time but the award for physics was awarded for inventing the CCD which happened in 1969.

What the heck does the length of the school year have to do with winning the Nobel Peace Prize ? ?

Unreal.

Umm... you won't be able to be in the same grade. Heck moving amongst provinces in Canada can often put you back or forward 2 grades.

Honestly though School was a lot better then my job is. for my last year  I got almost 3.9 GPA and I didn't do a *censored* thing! just sat around and worked on whatever program I was working on at the time. I forget what it was.

The main problem is kids don't realize what the entire point of school is. It's not to make friends and socialize and pass notes and say "OMG waz U AT THE DANCE DOOD I DIDN"T SEE'S YOU THAR", but rather to, you know, get a basic education. Something you can build job skills, or further education on. Your unlikely to get far without knowing basic arithmetic or literacy. Public school does serve the secondary purpose of being with ones peers and growing social skills, but this is merely an "accidental" side benefit.

Examples, English:

B.C: Those two cars are side by side.

Ontario: Those two cars are side by each.

Side by each!? What kind of english is that? Oh well.

ahh, but is that not a city, rather then a province?

Helpmeh: not ALL people from there are like that. I guess it's more around Ottawa. Seriously though every person that I know from Ontario says that... side by each... very annoying. Then again, I also know a person who has never heard of tetris. HOW is that even possible?

On-topic though... It seems, lately, that the peace prize isn't really given based on who deserves it but rather to the person with the loudest mouth about things that are controversial, Al Gore, for example.

BC, I find saying "side by each" akward. But people act on habits, so if I kept saying it, then I probably would find it normal.  And if that tetris comment was aimed at me, I HAVE heard of tetris, and I have played many versions as well.

It was in the Helpmeh: paragraph, but back on topic in the off topic forum...I think that Obama is cool and all, but he doesn't deserve the peace prize.

I ''Think George Bush'' Should of gotten a price like that before'' Obama got one.

I don't think the school year should be longer let kids be kids they have the rest of there lives to work.  Why because there kids.

Good for you!!!
The inability of American kids to communicate in their native language - let alone string together two or three coherent sentences with no grammatical or spelling errors - is blatant and disturbing. And nowhere is it more obvious than on forums such as these.

I don't think the school year should be longer let kids be kids they have the rest of there lives to work.  Why because there kids.

First the first one: Can't think of a whole lot Mr.Bush did for the U.S, personally. Seemed more bent on avenging his father in some odd way. Although I'm not sure what a "price" has to do with this.

2nd: If the kids are properly educated and encouraged instead of "letting them be kids", the goal is to make it so they enjoy the work they end up doing. A good number of aspirations during childhood about "what they are going to be" require a good amount of training, (doctor, fireman, etc) and it's clear that not getting through the public school system with a firm grasp of at least the basic principles of penmanship and mathematics it's unlikely such a job would be attainable. Too simply shrug off such education and assume that they want to lead the "simple life" involving working themselves to the ground for minimum wage is a result of a lack of perspective.

.qoute from bc
the goal is to make it so they enjoy the work they end up doing.

There is such a thing as over education just like an athlete who's over training in not going to be as athletic the school year i think is plently long enough.   And the kids goals and dream jobs are there choices to persue better parenting can go alot longer there than more goverment education ever will.

Obama has  done nothing as of yet.    I think to have gotten it.
I wasn't saying George bush should of gotten one
