Title: Screen Froze
Post by: Myron on October 14, 2009, 08:35:32 AM
I was trying to download the MSN Toolbar when my PC froze. I use Windows XP. An hourglass symbol appeared and would not disappear. I remember being told to press 3 keys at the same time: control, add and delete. I did that but I got strange messages. What is the best way to unfreeze a PC? What causes this anyway? When I use an iMac at the store, it never freezes.

PC specs, what "strange messages"?

And lastly... why do you WANT the MSN toolbar?

BC - he's using an old Micron he just got and he's a true novice. Myron has several threads going regarding different questions he's got (mostly pretty basic stuff).

Strange messages are ads from osguard-pro asking me to purchase their software for $50 plus phony security alerts saying my PC is infected which block me from doing many operations. Now, I am getting full-screen *censored* sites while I'm typing-in response to you. My MRT scan says they detected no infected files so what's going on? I am supposed to be protected by Avira antivir personal as well as pop-up blockers and pfishing filters. Regarding frozen screen (crashed) I tried pressing C,A and D but no response. I did this several times holding the 3 keys for awhile. I was forced to turn-off manually.

Your system is infected. You should ask for help in the virus form on this site.

You can start by reading this.....

I tried but pop-ups and full-screen ads come on interrupting any kind of clean-up I attempt. What can I do? I did manage an MRT to try to find infected files and clean them but the results say no infection found. I did this sweep 2X. Are there viruses that hide and cannot be found? Is there a better way to clean-up than using the built-in Malicious Removal Tool? Thanks. I am desperate.
