Title: Windows 7 boot
Post by: Ryoshin on October 29, 2009, 09:55:14 PM
When I boot into windows 7 x64 I get 2-3 error messages saying that asussetup is missing a file eg: 194100.iniis. I'm fairly certain that the setup it is referring to is the programs that came with my mobo that I tried to install on my new 7 install and they didn't work. I'm not worried about the programs working I just want the error message to stop popping up everytime I boot into windows because it's very annoying. I have looked through my installed programs and in ccleaner and there is nothing listed for Asus. Is there anything I can do to stop the error messages from popping up? Is there some files somewhere that I need to delete? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The chipset driver for your motherboard (that came with the board) may be out dated with no support for Windows 7.  Go to the Asus website and download the latest chipset driver for the make/model of your motherboard.  Be sure to get the Windows 7  64-bit version of the driver..

Can you post exact messages?

SS attached. I have no problems at all it's just that the error messages everytime I boot are really annoying, was trying to avoid a fresh install if possible.

Just to let you know the 3 asus setup.exe's are the error messages. I left them open when i ran hijackthis.
Title: Re: Windows 7 boot
Post by: Broni on October 29, 2009, 11:07:10 PM
You can see 3 instances of Asus setup running:
C:\Windows\AMD_Chipset_V307320_Windows7\AsusSetup.exe
C:\Windows\AMD_Chipset_V307320_Windows7\AsusSetup.exe
C:\Windows\AMD_Chipset_V307320_Windows7\AsusSetup.exe

I'm not 100% sure, which entry invokes them, but it looks like the only possibility is:
- O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [amd_dc_opt] C:\Program Files (x86)\AMD\Dual-Core Optimizer\amd_dc_opt.exe
Re-run HJT and checkmark the above entry.
Click "Fix checked" button and restart computer.
See, if the errors are still there.

Keep in mind, this is a workaround, because something is not installed right.

okay thanks, i was just thinking the same thing, that it could be the dual core optimizer, i'm going to try uninstalling that first before i try the workaround.

I can't see it from HJT log. The problem with HJT is, it's not fullt compatible with 64-bit systems.

Download OTL (http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/OTL.exe) to your Desktop.

    * Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
    * Under the Custom Scan box paste this in:

      netsvcs
      %SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.exe
      %systemroot%\system32\eventlog.dll
      %systemroot%\system32\scecli.dll
      %systemroot%\netlogon.dll
      %systemroot%\system32\cngaudit.dll
      %systemroot%\system32\sceclt.dll
      %systemroot%\ntelogon.dll
      %systemroot%\system32\logevent.dll

    * Click the Quick Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
