Title: My SBCC Intro.
Post by: Cityscape on November 06, 2009, 04:00:24 PM
Hi all :)

I've fixed computers in the past but never built one. Until last week that is. I bought a lot of old computer parts and built myself a nice classic gaming system.

Specs are:
- 200W PSU
- a 3.2 GB HDD
- 128 MB RAM
- Motherboard with USB 1.1, Graphics, Sound... on it
- a 3.5 inch floppy and a CD-ROM drive
- OS's include Dos 6.22 with Windows 3.1, but I'm gonna add 95 and NT for a tri-boot

I may get some pictures on here soon (or may not, Im real busy these days).

Cool.

What games are you running on it?

Looks like it'll work good for some classic gaming and flash back goodness. :) Got you added to the SBCC and add your profile icon.

Mainly high-end DOS games (Doom, SimCity2000, NHL Hockey 93, Civil War, Maniac Mansion...) as well as some Windows 95/98 games. By the way if you have have suggestions for great DOS games to play let me know (PM is fine).

Thanks. Yah It'll bring back some memories of "the good ol' days".

Oops forgot to mention that I have Need For Speed (I'm almost certain it's the original). But however I'll check out MechWarrior. It sounds like a war game, I prefer games in the Adventure & Action genes mostly.

If memory serves me correctly there was an expansion pack called 'Ghost Bear Legacy' as well.

However I can't find it listed in WIKI.

Harry 48, you really need a new topic post on this one.  You would be amazed at how well backwards compatibility works, however there is a lot of hardware that won't play well with others.

Sometimes "Yes" and sometimes "No". You'd have to do that research. The main area's where you'd have compatibility issues are motherboards, processors, cards (graphic, sound...) and RAM. Some stuff like PSUs, drives (HDD, FDD & CD) cables... are pretty much compatible almost everywhere.

Good idea, if you'd like help figuring out which parts are compatible and which arn't start a new topic and people can help you.
