Title: windows vista and ipod nano

i currently have windows vista 64 home premium on my laptop.  i recently received ipod nano, 5th generation.  i downloaded current itunes version but computer will not recognize ipod when plugged into usb port.  tried my other 2 usb ports and still will not recognize.  i plugged my ipod into my sons computer which runs windows xp and it recognized it.  my usb ports are working cuz i can use other devices.  i am so frustrated.  Apple and dell are no help what so ever.  i have removed itunes software twice and still nothing.
