All  fans  are  working
power reaches everywhere
cd rom drive,mouse,keyboard,..

replaced  Ram because of this problem
it's a new ram now

but still  the problem is there
it takes  3 to 4 attempts to boot

and there  are  automatic restarts  as well  when  the comp is booted and working
sometimes the comp freezes

sometimes  i get blue screen stop message asking  to try changing video adapter or chk  bios update from vendor

well

when  it  works,it works fine
apart  from the automatic restarts  in between
once in an hour or so

power supply is 4 years old

it  is  windows xp OS  SP2

no new  software or hardware installed

apart from RAM stick which was  to supposed to solve this problem
the prev ram stick had gone bad according to the hardware technician

i give you 90 % that your RAM doesn't want to work... That could be because you have different brand (like kingston and buffalo), ram capacity (512 and 256) or one of them is broken... Sorry I didn't ask - how many RAM cards do you have plugged in ?

I  have  just 1  Ram stick

But  i had similar problem with the old ram  stick which has gone bad
that  old  ram stick worked fine for 4 years or so
and i haven't made   any hardware or software changes
the problem started all of a sudden

I would change out the power supply if you have determined that RAM is not the culprit
