Hey guys, I recently did a "upgrade" to Windows 7 Ultimate from Windows Vista Home Premium. Installation went fine, until the first time I had to login. I would get huge red letters that would say "ERROR, and it said cannot open file c:\recovery.dat". I didn't know what to do so I just ran my Vista Recovery DVD that came with my laptop and got back to my factory settings... I was thinking of running a clean install this time... but I was worried if I would get that error again. I was wondering, can I still run the Vista Recovery DVD after I do a clean install...? Kind of stuck here, I want to have Windows 7, but I don't want to get the error again and not be able to do ANYTHING about it... Thanks for the help in advance.

Out of curiosity, where did you get your Windows 7?

Bestbuy, a lot of Asus users have the same recovery.dat prblem...if you don't believe me google it lol

I'm not doubting you, I was just making sure it was legal.
Did you install the x64 or x86 version?

Ah okay, 64bit, I'm running 64bit Vista. x64

Did you install the Windows 7 drivers after the installation was finished?
Or did that occur during the installation?

Idk if the drivers were part of the installation, I just kinda left the laptop while everything was installing...All I did was run the Win7 installation cd...I never got passed the login screen. Actually I didn't even get to the login screen. It would go to the screen where you type in your password or whatever, but would just freeze and the ERROR thing would come up.

Yeah I've posted it at a few sites. Just trying to different peoples thoughts on why its doing it and the solution to the problem.
