Is there a way to disable the YouTube app on my iTouch from opening when I click YouTube links? It's a pain in the *** to copy and paste the link into a new tab of the browser.
-
Why would you want to disable it? You can't view the flash in the browser. i've never hear od it being disabled. Sorry :(
-
Why would you want to disable it?
Because it is annoying. The YouTube website is much better. And videos on the YouTube site still play (mobile iPhone/iTouch version). Whenever I click a link to a YouTube site in Safari, it closes safari and opens the YouTube app (which is what I DON'T want it to do), when I want it to open up in the YouTube site in a new tab.

You cannot play Embedded Youtube videos from within the Safari Browser. The only way to play Youtube videos on the iPhone/ iPod Touch is via the Youtube App.

You might want to check your facts. Not all videos are playable, but a good portion of them are.

Can you provide an example?

Can you provide an example?
An example of a YouTube video capable of being played without the Youtube app closing safari when the movie is over? Copy and paste this link into the browser's bar. Click the video (you don't have to watch, just click done). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ob1anoNlFKI&feature=sub
Now, click the above link. Notice how safari has closed and is opening the YouTube app? This is what I don't want happening.

It opens in the Youtube app because the browser cannot play Youtube videos. The Youtube app is REQUIRED to play online videos.
The iPhone's Safari Browser has no Flash support. Online videos use Flash to stream videos. To get around this, Apple has this Youtube App.

Let me try and explain again. If you did what I said in my last post, you would have noticed that pastng the URL into the browser, you get to go to YouTube.com (the desired outcome), but directly clicking on the link closes safari (an undesired result) and opens the YouTube app (another undesired result).
-
Hmmm.....That's not what happened here.
When I pasted that link into the URL bar, it went straight to the Youtube App.
What iPhone OS are you running?

3.1.1 (I think...It's charging right now)...
Because when I paste it into the URL bar, it opens a youtube page, and then I can click on a thumbnail of the video to watch it, but when I click the link, it opens directly in the youtube app, and when the video is done, it returns to my search results (or whatever section of the app I was last on).
-
Because I can't edit for some reason, I will just have to confirm what I said before in this post. OS 3.1.1.
-
I think there's your problem.
The iPod can be updated to version 3.1.2, which will no doubt get rid of that browser-playback 'bug'.
If what you're looking for isn't on Google, then there is no way around it.

You mean it will ALWAYS open it up in the YouTube app? Or the opposite, it WON'T open it up in the YouTube app? (and I mean close down the browser)
-
It WILL open on the app - always.

It WILL open on the app - always.
Well that's one reason why I don't need (or want) to upgrade to 3.1.2 .

Looks as if the video streaming is one of the few fixes in the 3.1.2 update.
Oh well.
-
have you tried going thru the settings and enabling "restrictions" and then have it not allow youtube to see if that would solve the problem of the app opening

Hmm...I will try that idea!
-
Aha! It works! Thanks!
-
Hmmm.....Doesn't work here....

You enabled restrictions and set Youtube to OFF? It works here!
-
It just prevents the playback of youtube videos altogether.
Oh well, it doesn't matter. I don't have a problem with the app.
