Title: question about the way a window can open
Post by: talontromper on February 03, 2010, 07:56:29 PM
this question isn't really a problem but more of a annoyance. i use windows gadgets  and i like to see them (I.E. network monitor and CPU monitor and some others) but every time i open a window it covers the gadgets up...... yes i know that they can be set to stay on top of all windows. i guess my question is.... is it possible to modify how far the maximize goes on the maximization. could the maximize stop like it did in vista.

What do you mean "could the maximize stop like it did in Vista"? Maximize is maximize. You can change the size and position a window will open by dragging it to the size and location you want and closing it. It should then open in the same spot. If it doesn't, try holding down either the CTRL or SHIFT key when closing the window.

what i meant by the vista maximization is.... is it possible to partition off the right side of the computer desktop where the win 7 gadgets are located? In win vista if you selected the option to keep the gadgets on top of all other windows it would basically make the left side of the gadgets the end of your screen. I'm wondering if the same is possible in windows 7.

If it’s built into Win7, that would be the best.
I remember hearing about some utility that limits the size of windows on your desktop, but I can’t find it now. Here are four I found by searching. I’ve never tried any of these apps, but they might be worth looking at.

GridMove …. lets you define grid templates on your desktop

7 Sidebar emulates the good old sidebar of Vista in Windows 7 and even adds some nice features to it.
