'Open With' help

I'm posting this here since it applies to FireFox, and NetBrowser, and Internet Explorer and such.

Ok, ever since I got the XP Secuirty Virus 2010, and I got rid of it, it seems I can't open NONE of my programs. Not even Regedit! Every time I open...for example FireFox, it comes up with a list of programs, and when I click FireFox it comes up with an error! And I cannot do Prt Scr and take a picture of it and put it on Paint because it doesn't work. It comes up with something like this:

Error: Cannot open SYSTEM32://mspaint.exe (something like that)

And it does that for FireFox, and ALL my programs! Please help!!

I'd like to know, if you booted into safemode, would your programs still be ok?

I'm guessing that it would be. But I forgot how to boot into safemode.

How would this help the open with?

I was just wondering if there might have been something on your computer that is conflicting that may just cause your computer to go weird.

I have had programs that don't seem to open in normal boot to have 'magically' worked in safe mode oddly, and in safemode, nothing is loaded except for the bare minimum windows stuff.

So that means McAfee won't work during SafeMode or what? And is it possible to change back into normal boot? Or do I have to do System Restore?
