Converting Linux drive to Windows via external
    « on: March 17, 2010, 05:40:48 AM »
I have a 2tb Mybookworld network drive that never really worked right (refurb from ebay) and eventually it got to where it will power up but will not recognize on the network.  I tried new cables, switch, 'map network drive' nothing worked.  Ok fine.

So I can remove the drives, install them into my regular WD external drive and 'Disk Management' sees the drive, shows 5 partitions, correct drive size, etc. but will not give a drive letter.  I can right click on the partions and I can delete the partitions, but 'format' is grayed out.  In the process of trying back and forth emails with WD, they mentioned that the drives are formatted in Linux.  Ok....

What I want to do is install the drives into my external, format to NTFS (fat32...whatever) , then buy empty external network cases from ebay, install the drives into those and use them on my network, and be done with this WD crap.

If you leave DOS/Linux/ect. directions, please be detailed and specific.  thankyou in advance.

1st.  You bought the WD My Book World from eBay and are having issues.
2nd.  Now you want to remove the hard drive from the WD and buy an external network case from eBay.
Why you want to buy anything from eBay?

I suggest reading the User Manual very carefully.
There are 6 LED indicator lights on the front panel, what do they say?

Can anyone else give me some help?  Computer Commando doesn't have any answers, only more questions and comments.

Trust me, I have been down every avenue before doing this.  I guess I'll just have someone do it when I get home.
