    DVD Not Working
    « on: March 23, 2010, 07:21:05 PM »
Very strange.  On bootup, my DVD ROM is recognized and listed as an IDE device.  It's also listed in Device Manager as working properly and If I try "Add New Hardware", it's also listed there as working properly but when I insert a disc, the light flashes and then stops and then nothing.  Here's the strange part.  It is not listed in the BIOS?, only my hard drive is listed.  I know the DVD ROM is good as I tested it on my friends computer.  I've tried connecting it to the motherboard and to the same cable from my hard drive.  I've also tried different cables.  Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be?  Thanks in advance.

It could be disabled in BIOS. Try loading your default BIOS settings.

      1.  Why don't you tell us how the IDE devices are configured (jumpered and cabled):
           a.  How is the hard drive configured:
                (1)  Is it on a 40-wire 40-pin or 80-wire 40-pin ribbon cable?
                (2)  Is it on the end (black) or middle (grey) connector?
                (3)  Is it the only device on the cable?
                (4)  How is it "jumpered" (single, master, slave, cable_select)?
                (5)  Which IDE port is the cable connected to (primary or secondary)?
