loading Windows 98
« on: July 11, 2005, 02:46:31 PM »
When I load windows 98 without the boot floppy, I get 'missing or corrupted files.'These include c:/windows/himem.sys,c:/windows/dblbuff.sys, and c:/windows/isfhlp.sys. Then I get the 'unable to load Windows, cannot find  win.com. All I am trying to do is reload windows 98. However, I can’t do  so . When   I try to specify the D drive, it comes  up with ‘invalid  drive specification’.

1. Go to http://bootdisk.com
2.  Click on Bootdisks in the following phrase : DOS/Windows9X/Me/NT/2K/XP Excellent Bootdisks
3. Download Windows 98 OEM, unless you are using SE. In which case you download this file.
4. Format a 1.44MB diskette
5. Run the installer
6. Follow instructions

No. As soon as you power on the computer, rapidly press the key required to enter the BIOS even your monitor is not yet displaying anything.
