Is it possible to cause some add-on for Firefox or chrome slow browsing

Addons can slow any browser's performance...what is the issue exactly ? ?

The issue is
i get several add-on to  f.f. browser , &  noted the slow browsing.
 I measured the speed of ADSL and was true. No malicious software - f.f. forum said that add-on does not cause slow browsing. other browser go better
 I'm looking for reason behind the slowdown
