soybean, i cannot remember what the issues were i was having at the time. However the issues whatever they were only occurred after the installation of firefox. It may well have been that at the time i did not create firefox as the "default". In fact i tend to think NOT. I only accessed it by demand. maybe it's time to revisit that option. Thanks for your input. truenorth

Yes, I think you should try Firefox again.  If you have issues with it, post your questions in the forum, which I'm sure you would do.

Installing another browser and not making it the default browser does not cause problems as far as any of your browsers are concerned.  But, the default browser is the one that responds to certain calls for a browser response.  For example, if you use Outlook Express or some other email client on your computer for email and you click on link in an email to a website, whichever browser is set as default is the one that will open.  Likewise, if you use Word or another word processor and have hyperlinks in such files, clicking on them will result in the default browser being opened.

So, to completely switch to using a different browser, you should set it as default.  Normally, you will be prompted to choose whether to set a browser as default when you install it.  But, if you elect not to make it the default browser at that time, you can easily do so later.

And, keep in mind, you can open and use multiple browser at the same time as long as your computer has enough memory.  With my Vista laptop, I have Firefox and Chrome installed and, of course, IE is also installed.  At the moment, I have Chrome set as default.  Before that, I had Firefox set as default.  And, again, I can open 2 or more at the same time but normally only have one open.

Soybean, I have long believed that you along with quite a few other stalwarts of the CH forums need to be paid attention to when advice is proffered. So to that end  I'm currently responding to your last post on the computer with the previous drop down CH forum post menu issue. It is now associated with Firefox 3.6 (latest version and very nice looking) The full features of the drop down menus are now available. I did select the Firefox default browser when offered as well as the transfer of the items from IE.
I notice a feature here in Firefox that was not present in IE on the CH forums. A notoriously bad speller i relied heavily on the "spell check" of the post in the CH. However i now see that i am being prompted from within the message composition to address errors. Neat!Thank again, truenorth

Sorry, but this is absolute non-sense.  There's absolutely no need to remove IE if you install another browser.  Installing a browser other than IE does not cause "conflict issues".  Just set one browser as default.
Agreed. I have at least 3 browsers (IE, Firefox, Opera) on every system I use.

I have at least 6 or 7 installed for testing web sites.  The only conflict I've had recently is with Maxthon...it gets rather demanding if you don't let it be the default browser.
