Strange endless cycle of channel registration
« on: May 22, 2010, 09:10:37 AM »
I'm trying to register a channel and am getting nowhere. /Chanserv says to register a channel, I need to be an OPerator in the channel:
Quote
*ChanServ*   Registers a channel in the ChanServ database. In order
*ChanServ*   to use this command, you must first be a channel operator
*ChanServ*   on the channel you're trying to register.
However, when I tried to make myself OP by typing:
/Chanserv op #mychannel Helpmeh
I get:
Quote
   *ChanServ*   Channel #mychannel  isn't registered.

I tried doing /mode +o, but I get an error saying
Quote
[ERROR]   You need to be an operator in #mychannel to do that.
even though mode +o would make me an operator. Mibbit's wiki doesn't seem to have any info on this.
Where's MagicSpeed?

He's playing a game called IRL. Great graphics, *censored* gameplay.

In a new, unregistered channel, the first person to enter will be op'd.
If you are not op'd,  then you may be joining a pre-existing (already registered) channel.

Is there any one else presently in the channel with you?    Are they op'd?

The commands you are attempting to use will not work for you.  They may work, if your registered nick is on the AOP list, but I'd have to double check that to be sure.

Is your nick registered with Nickserv?    .... that must be done first, before attempting to register a channel with Chanserv.

Hi patio.   :)

Sorry for late reply...   either the mail notification didn't work,  or I overlooked it...   just saw this from you now.

Note for anyone else:
Helpmeh got his channel registered.    We met online and covered it.     Sorry that the method and result is not here for all to be able to read.

Then again, it is an excuse to chat ....   meet us online and we'll be glad to explain it!    :)
