    Computer trouble
    « on: July 05, 2010, 12:11:37 PM »
    Hello again Computer hope!

I am having trouble with my computer again, and as u helped me so well last time i thought i would ask you again!

This time the problem is rather annoying. I can not open or run any programs i get an error message saying `the configuration is incorrect, try reinstalling the program to fix the problem` i cant reinstall as i cant run a program... on my screen i can not see the bottom bar(windows open start button etc) i can see the clock as usual but the rest is just white, and i can hit the windows button to see the start menu..which is not as it should be. The start menu shows me `internet` and `my documents` on the top and then just white boxes i can click programs and see the lists as usual tho i can not start anything.

I have tried to do system restores however this has been successful but has changed nothing.

I have tried to do a disk check and it has not helped.

I have tried to follow your instructions to get you the 3 logs, however i cant even download the programs(the `save to file` appears for a second then disappears) and the ones i have wont run.

please help me out i have no idea what the problem is and i cant even access the trouble shoot or FAQ.

I have Norton 360 Antivirus...but it wont run...

Any help here would be hot! im out of ideas!

    Tnx!

Please download OTL  to your Desktop. (If you already have it downloaded, then just follow the instructions below).
    • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
    • Under the Custom Scan box paste this in
    %systemroot%\*. /mp /s
    %systemroot%\system32\*.dll /lockedfiles
    %systemroot%\system32\*.exe /lockedfiles
    %systemroot%\Tasks\*.job /lockedfiles

    • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
      • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
      • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) and paste (Edit->Paste) the contents of these files, one at a time
Note: in the event that OTL fails to run, please use alternate download links to try again:

      hi tnx for the reply,

i tried downloading the program with this computer...wont work on any of the links, if i right click the links and press save as is that the same as downloading it? if so then i managed to get it down but those files wont run. i havent got a second computer available here will, download at work 2morrow morning and then try putting in the file with a usb memory and then attempt again. however i get the feeling it wont work...Notepad wont open.

Something else strange is that certain programs will run, such as some installed games...but almost all windows programs dont work, i can get the CMD to work tho not much else.. any ideas?

We are going to be using a Windows Recovery Environment to help disinfect the system so it may boot again.

I would recommend doing this on another computer.

Download the OTLPE Network REATOGO Windows Recovery Environment.
        • Place a blank CD-R disc in to your CD burning drive.
        • Download OTLPENet.exe and double-click on it to burn to a CD using ISO Burner.
        • Reboot your system using the boot CD you just created.
Note : If you do not know how to set your computer to boot from CD follow the steps here
        • Your system should now display a REATOGO-X-PE desktop.
        • Double-click on the OTLPE icon.
        • When asked "Do you wish to load the remote registry", select Yes
        • When asked "Do you wish to load remote user profile(s) for scanning", select Yes
        • Ensure the box "Automatically Load All Remaining Users" is checked and press OK
        • OTL should now start. Change the following settings
          • Change Drivers to Non-Microsoft
          • Press Run Scan to start the scan.
          • When finished, the file will be saved  in drive C:\_OTL\MovedFiles
          • Copy this file to your USB drive if you do not have internet connection on this system
          • Please post the contents of the OTL.txt file in your reply.

Finally got around to try this sorry i took so long.

Results..not to good..got a lot of errors during the start up and when i finally get in, it wont let me run the OTLPE it says that the current user doesnt have the rights.

will make a second attempt tomorrow evening with another cd but im guessing it will be the same...
