Need removal assistance

A week or so ago I got a nasty batch of trojans just by visiting a website which I thought was impossible but I guess not...  The virus had two main noticeable effects.  It would load ads and hijack search engine results while I was browsing and blocked access to sites regarding it's removal.

I managed to get rid of most of the lockdown on my  machine by manually deleting some boot executables they added long enough to run a virus scan.  (Only Avast! actually ended up finding them, AVG found nothing, Microsoft Security Essentials found a few.)

It seems, however that there must still be something on my machine as spybot still won't install and certain antivirus-related websites are still blocked.  On rare occasions it will seem to try to redirect a search result to an ad website but fail or just come up with a blank page.

It's to the point now where no antiviruses (yes, I have three but I only have one 'shield' activated at a time) are finding anything and so I turn here.

I'm thinking the actual viruses are gone and what I'm experiencing is just the stuff they managed to mess up while they were active.

I'm quite knowledgeable about computers (I'm a programmer) but I haven't really had a good fight a virus before (always figured I was too smart to get one...)

Edit:
Sorry I missed the stuff I should have read before posting.  SUPERAntiSpyware actually installed on my machine (which shocked me as all others have failed) so that is running now.  Will repost with results after completing steps outlined in the other thread http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,46313.0.html.  Sorry for getting ahead of myself.
