Need help connecting between 2 ethernet jacks.
    « on: July 21, 2010, 09:40:42 PM »
I have two Ethernet CAT5e jacks in my house, one is in the bedroom and the other is in the basement. My computer that is in the bedroom has the internet modem connecting to a wireless router.

Is it possible to connect my router to the bedroom's Ethernet jack which is thus connected to the basement's one? Since another computer that is in the basement has a ethernet cable connecting to the jack but I don't recieve anything but the network is unplugged error.

    Any help would be appreciated.

That depends on where the Ethernet jacks are terminating.

Are the jacks connected directly to each other?  Are they connected to a switch?

Part of the problem is most people don't generally deal with computer problems. So for most they think that close enough is good enough.

I figured it out, they were just not connected to anything besides the terminal, thanks for the help though. :)
