My computer is somewhat slow today and I go to check the taskmanager and I see this program.exe listed and the description says Microsoft Seaport Search Engine. It was using 88 or so % of CPU.

Anybody know what this is???

I never seen this before, just happened today.

Remove Microsoft SeaPort Search Enhancemet
Microsoft SeaPort Search Enhancemet is installed with Windows Live and some find that it slows down their computer significantly. To remove this enhancement, you can do the following:

Click Start.
Click Run.
Type: cmd
Hit the Enter Key.
Type: sc delete SeaPort
Reboot the computer.

Let me know if this solves your problem.

I disagree with this statement while it is true that some computers are slowed by this, it is not necessary to remove the offending program, disabling serves the same job via the MSCONFIG interface.

I ran my AV tool and it cleaned up some stuff and it's all ok again.

And NEVER use msconfig to make permantent changes to startup items.

I like to use ccleaner to disable startup items that I would like to disable.

alright, but why say that msconfig is bad to use to make permanent changes to start-up programs? Yes, i do know that selecting the wrong programs can mess you system up, and I'm thinking right now that i just answered my own question.

msconfig is a diagnostic / troubleshooting utility. It is not intended to be used to do simple housekeeping chores. There are any number of good, very simple utilities for changing startup items - not the least of which is Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel.
