Laptop won't boot in normal mode
    « on: August 28, 2010, 04:56:43 AM »
Hey guys, looking for some help here.
As you can tell from the heading my girlfriends laptop isn't booting in normal mode. Im pretty certain its due to a virus that has done damage or may still be present somewhere on the computer.
I'v tried so many different things but nothing has worked so far. I'v tried using system restore but it came back, and now system restore wont work for me when I try to reboot to an earlier state.
Anyone have any idea how to help? I dont have the windows xp cd here to upload it again, which doesnt help me at all.

    Thanks in advance.

Please specify what kind of booting? Error messages, Boot Hanging, Cannot load OS, OS Recovery error, HD not detected...

What kind? Have you done any system scan for virus, malware/spyware?

Which means you were able to revert but it became worse....
There's something in between the lines you posted that needs to fill out. A general term or usage will not help you. Be specific on details as to what happen to every action you have made.

Again it's your last resort, Any options failed will prompt you to use a disc.

Note: Have you tried booting to safemode atleast?

1, it just hangs on a black screen before asking me to log in.
2,the virus was something acting as an anti-virus asking me to pay to download the program to get rid of "viruses it found on my computer".
3,After using system restore it worked fine for a few hours, but then when I tried to turn it back on the same problem came back.see point 1 above.
      I have avast,mbam,superanti-spyware.
