My battery is not detected or charging
    « on: August 31, 2010, 08:18:28 PM »
Okay. So I just bought a vaio computer from my friend. The battery however is not detected or charging. I have been tolod by sony that it is not the battery but they want to charge me to fix it. They think that my computer needs reconfigured with windows services and other advanced system settings for the battery to be recognized and charged. I would be glad to set up a remote desktop so you could look at my computer and try to solve this problem. Thank you. also my friend updated to windows 7. thanks again.

    1. Unplug AC adapter. Shutdown
    2. Remove battery, Connect AC Adapter
    3. Start windows7. Remove Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery,
    4. Shutdown, Remove AC Adapter, Install battery, Reattach AC Adapter.
    5. Power up -
    Now Plugged in and Charging..

Found that and it helped another person with a diff brand computer. Might as well try it.
Be sure to follow exact order as stated and let us know if it worked.

What's your friend say about the battery?  Was it working for them, or is that why they sold it?

It's got to be a bad battery, or a bad charger. I've had a number of laptops, and a number of bad batteries or chargers, but I've never had to go into software to fix the problem.

Its a win7 issue and happens on some laptops when you upgrade to win7. The OEM Windows from Sony includes the drivers /software needed to run the battery charging.

Why would anybody take something so simple as batteries and charging and make it more complicated?

My guess is Sony wants you to buy the win7 from them for the laptop to make the money.
I prefer OEM OS's for laptops anyway since they include software and drivers for their specific model. Laptops often include things that desktops don't have. Figure its more propitiatory device wise anyway. (battery being the issue here)
