moving doc's and photos with win7

with xp if you wanted to move doc's or photo's you could click send to and move them to another location , but send to is not in win7 so do you have to open 2 windows and drag from 1 location to the other

yes , ( i must learn to right click with win7) ok it worked with documents but not with photos you cannot send from one file to another

I'm not sure I know what you're trying to do here. Send a file to another file? Why? What does that mean?

I can see the "Send To" option when I right click any file.

in xp in the side bar you got a choice of copy or send if you hit send you got a choice of where to send it , its not in win7

That does not make sense.  Do you not know the difference between a file and a folder.  File A remains file A regardless of what folder you put it in.  Moving file A does not make it file B.  Only renaming it would do that, and that's clearly not what you're talking about. That's how I'd do it.
Open one folder and press the windows key + the left arrow key. Open the other one and press the windows key + the right arrow button. They will be perfectly aligned, side by side.

I see no difference between Win XP and Win 7 in this regard. With both, I need to right click to get the context menu and, with both, I have the same options, none of which is sending to a folder other than My Documents or a compressed folder.  If you see the option to select a folder to Send to, this is probably because your right-click context menu has been modified from the default settings.

Again, I see no difference.  I would open two Explorer windows, as JJ 3000 suggested.

ok i will do it jj3000's way , but as in reply 6 , if you clicked on a folder the side bar showed , move , copy and a couple of others it brought up a popup and you could choose a folder to send to

In W7 it's usually C:\Users\<User name>\SendTo

One of the things you can add to the Send To folder is a short cut to... the Send To folder. Also one to the user's Start Menu Startup folder.

Perhaps some misinterpretation on my part.  Sorry.

Now, I'd like to see some additional feedback from harry.  He has not acknowledged that he ever modified his right-click context menu, yet he claims he had an option in Win XP that he does see in Win 7, that option being that he could send directly to any folder, or at least the My Pictures folder.

Personally, I'd do as JJ 3000 suggested and open two Explorer Windows.

If the right-click context menu in Win XP gave you an option to select any folder to send to, then yes, your system was modified in order for that to happen.  So, sometime in the past, that menu was modified, perhaps without you knowing about the change at that time.

I presume you're still referring to moving photos and other personal files.  So, there's no need to move any other files, such as Windows system files. And, to move files one at a time would be a big waste of time.  Just select a group of files all at once and copy/paste them as a group.  If you have a folder open, you can click anywhere in that folder (in the Windows Explorer window) and hit Ctrl/a to select all files in the folder.

If you have not reformatted your old hard drive, then all files, including "things in it left over from XP", would still be there.

i believe the new parts went into the new tower and it was all set up and then the old drive was installed , but then i know i could be wrong

thank you BCP , that is what i have lost by doing the upgrade and going from xp to win7 , it was a very usful tool to have and i used it quite a lot

i don't suppose there is any way to increse the size of the box
