network backup using freeNAS

Does anyone use freeNAS as a home network backup?

I have a older HP laptop that I decided to use as a server type backup and with the help of my son we downloaded and change it using freeNAS.  All well and good and it works as such.  I can access the server from any of the 2 PC's and the newer laptop that is running Windows 7.

My problem is I don't really know how to do this.  I am not a computer "gear head" so I was wondering if anyone knew of a place where I could go to learn how to do this?

I found some stuff on YouTube but I think most of that is out of my league
