Hibernate/Sleep not offered for Enable is Win 7
    « on: December 01, 2010, 10:50:53 PM »
I decided I wanted to take advantage of these power management tools but was surprised to find that I can't access them.

From the Start Button, the only options are Shut Down or Restart. Under the Power tab in Control Panel, the problem is the same; these options are not even made available.

    Any thoughts?

Thanx, unfortunately the link wasn't helpful.

A while back, I was trying to work out another problem and it was advised that some drivers be updated. Specifically, I installed sp36491, 38834, 42635, and 45112. These are specific to HP laptops and the NVidia GForce card. It may very well be that this current problem began post-install. Is there any way to roll them back? I can't find them in computer/manage/device manager.

I'm not sure what those numbers relate to, but if you want to roll back drivers it can be done from within Device Manager.

In English speaking countries, we don't spell 'care' with a K. We do, however spell "know" with a k. IDK is a well known web abbreviation for "I don't know". Also we do not use an apostrophe before a plural s.

Also, like most tips of that type, it works just the same in Windows 7 as it does in Vista. I just tried it.

Your video card might not support sleep.

Update the driver for your video card, or check the information that came with your computer about your video card and supported drivers.

        There Got this post correct

Even assuming you are correct, and transparency, desktop animations, etc, are the same, they neither constitute the same "general idea" nor them being "very close". The very same logic could be used for an unemployed drifter who looks like Santa claus. Obviously, since he looks just like him he's "nearly the same" in other respects as well, aside from a few very minor differences, of course, what with the shopping kart instead of a sled, and a dog with matted fur instead of reindeer; and of course his kart is filled with cans, trash, and junk instead of toys, but hey- they are the same general idea.

anyway, my point is- When you change the insides, nobody notices.

Yes. Vista and 7 both share the Aero plumbing; they share similar kernels.  But so did Windows 2000 and Windows XP, and a lot of people learned that it was a bad idea to assume they were one and the same.

Watch yourself. Aside from the fact that BC is a well regarded and respected member of the CH community, you are the one turning this personal. And you're the one who started this by posting a ridiculous comment and then trying to defend it. You should just let it go (which, if you'd done several posts ago, none of this would now be going on).

I didn't... when did I? I can point out where I said that feel was a very subjective thing (although as ST pointed out it is in fact completely subjective), but nowhere did I call you subjective.  A "subjective" opinion is one based on first hand experience; clearly somebody describing a feeling is describing something subjectively, that was essentially the flaw with your initial assessment that they were close to the same, based on that feel. I wasn't saying that your assessment was wrong; you're obviously free to think that any OS feels like any other; some people might say that Windows on the whole feels similar to any other GUI Shells insomuch as they contrast with a text based UI, others might think they feel different because they use different window decorations, icons, and may use them slightly differently. In the same vein some people might think that DOS has a similar "feel" to it as UNIX, since they are both Command line interfaces. Other people would find they don't have the same feel because they use different syntax. It doesn't mean any of the people are wrong, but if somebody says "MS-DOS and UNIX are very close to be the same......but there is some differences " based on that feel, I'm going to try to at least clarify what they mean. At a glance, they can appear very similar; C> versus $ as prompts being the only true difference aside from the different banners. But once you start using it, you realize that MS-DOS and UNIX are very different systems with very different end-user goals. Similarly, while Vista and 7 "feel" the same at a glance, there are really no fewer differences between them then there are between, say, mac OS System 7 and System 8.

it's still supposed to be you're. I can only imagine "urself" is some sort of homage to Urkel, placed in the form of a straw man.
