    Fake antivirus alerts!
    « on: January 19, 2011, 07:01:35 PM »
I am hoping that this post will help save my computer. A few days ago, I turned on my computer and discovered that it was being bombarded with fake "antivirus software" popups and "security alerts". I tried to ignore them and use my computer as usual. Before I could figure out what was wrong, this problem starting taking over all of my programs and insisted that my computer was infected.

I rebooted in safe mode with networking. I ran my usual ad-aware and removed files that were flagged. I then downloaded spybot search & destroy and followed all of their instructions. A whole bunch of risks were identified and removed. BUT, none of that seemed to change anything. When I restarted to normal windows, everything was the same if not worse. Internet explorer started opening up to supposed porn sites without any internet connection!

I was given some suggestions for virus removal but now I am unable to connect to the internet when I reboot to safemode with networking. I was told to adjust some settings under internet option in this mode but still no luck. PLEASE HELP!

Thanks. But it must be said that as much as I would love to follow the steps under "malware removal steps," I have no internet connection to be able to download anything that is listed. I attempted to save on a USB but it does not show up when connected during save mode.

You mean that you use other computer with Internet just to download and save it to your USB drive?
