Possible cpu overheating
« on: January 31, 2011, 12:25:21 PM »
It's strange, because up until about 2 weeks ago I had never had this problem before.

My BIOS started beeping randomly while playing a game about 2 weeks ago, it gradually got worse and worse until it was beeping nonstop.(short beeps, almost like a truck was backing up)

I took it into a computer tech shop one day after it wouldn't start up, they cleaned it, said it was dust causing the problem.
So when I got it back, and started up my game, loaded up teamspeak, itunes etc, it started beeping again, and gradually got worse.
A friend of mine said my voice was distorted and sounded like a robot in teamspeak, and said that wasn't a good sign. It started the continuous beeping again, so I loaded up a program called coretemp, and found that the temp on both cores was about 58 degrees Celsius.
I've never seen it that high on my computer before..

I'm wondering if you guys can help me out, why would I start having core temp problems after all these years?
The fan is working fine, clear of dust, and the motherboard and cpu are only about 4 months old.  :-\

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

Replace the CPU fan....although it may be running it may not be doing it's job...take it with you to match up a suitable replacement.

Shouldn't have to...however you will want to remove it if possible...do a thorough cleaning and replace the Thermal Compound...

Just thought this might be interesting. I have used one of my computers when the CPU tempature was 80 degrees celcius and the computer didn't beep. After all, though, I was just using iTunes...

Personally I'd be looking at repasting the CPU/Heatsink before replacing anything. (well, technically I guess that is replacing the Thermal paste...)
I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

Which post? I did not mean to suggest using a computer at such a high tempature as I told in my previous post. Only one song I did, by the way, and after the one song I realized it, and turned the computer off. My computer.

No, I did not remove it. The one before BC_Programmers post. Sorry if this post contains a full member name, not sure if you can do that yet. Or anyone else for that matter on this site.
