Would a new N router give me more download speed?

Problem: Stuttering Youtube streaming
Dsl download speed: 3 Mbps (wired or wireless)
Wireless router: D-Link G (5 year old)
Computers: newest laptop has draft N, older one has G
Question: Can I benefit from a new N router?
My ISP says my package provides 5Mbps. If the G router has a capacity of 54 Mbps, does that mean an N router is not going to give me any more speed?
Appreciate any input.

The newest IEEE standard in the Wi-Fi category is 802.11n. It was designed to improve on 802.11g in the amount of bandwidth supported by utilizing multiple wireless signals and antennas (called MIMO technology) instead of one.
When this standard is finalized, 802.11n connections should support data rates of over 100 Mbps. 802.11n also offers somewhat better range over earlier Wi-Fi standards due to its increased signal intensity. 802.11n equipment will be backward compatible with 802.11g gear.

•Pros of 802.11n - fastest maximum speed and best signal range; more resistant to signal interference from outside sources
•Cons of 802.11n - standard is not yet finalized; costs more than 802.11g; the use of multiple signals may greatly interfere with nearby 802.11b/g based networks.

The simple answer is no.
Your download speed is capped by your ISP.
5Mbps is the max you can get, no matter what the router maximum speed is.

N router may give you a tad better wireless download speed, which is always less, than a wired connection  speed and N router gives you better range than G router.

I agree with him. It is not always faster.

One thing you can do to make YouTube faster is where it says 360p, change it to 240p and it should be faster.

Any broadband connection with a speed of 1Mbps, or more should play streaming video just fine.
If it doesn't, there may be some other factors, like poor computer specs, browser add-ons, etc.

My computers are all low end ones. Even the newest one is only Acer with AMD Athlon TF-20(1.6 GHz), 3GB ram.
I am not famililar with browser add-ons.  So nothing I could do except buying a better computer?

Internet explorer 8.

Close IE.
Go Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools, and click on Internet Explorer (no add-ons). Same problem?

When I run IE without add-ons the video won't start, asking me to download flash player update. When I try to download, it won't go further.

Wasn't thinking....flash plugin is most likely disabled.

Install Firefox: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ and see, if you have same problem.
