Switch back to regular mode by using Recovery console
« on: February 24, 2011, 11:09:42 PM »
I had some problems with the sality.aa virus and it corrupted my safe mode. In order to access safe mode i used  msconfig- BOOT.INI and checked the checkbox next to /SAFEBOOT. But because of the corruption of my safe mode now computer stuck in a vicious circle ( try to start at safe mode, give a blue screen error and restart again ). So is there any way to prevent safe mode activation at the beginning and start the XP at regular mode by using Recovery console or any other method to stop this cycle, thank you for your advices and sorry for my poor English.

Use a live cd (Ubuntu is my preference) and delete or rename the file C:\BOOT.INI

When NTLDR cannot find a boot.ini file it is programmed to load the system installed at C:\Windows in regular mode by default.  NTLDR will display the advisory message "Invalid boot.ini file  Booting from C:\Windows"

However, even if the above works I think you may have other problems.  For assistance with malware removal please visit the CH Computer Viruses and Spyware Forum and read the stickies by Evilfantasy especially http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,46313.0.html but be patient, the authorized malware removal specialists are very busy.

Good luck.
