    how to remove old website from internet

    our old website of several years ago is still on the internet and i dont kno how to take it down, can anyone give guidance?

      What do you mean by "on the internet"?

      Do you mean cached by Google?  Or is it live right now?

      Well, who hosts your website?  Surely, you must know this.  How did you launch it in the first place? 

      You need to contact the hosting service and close your account with them.  You could also allow your domain name registration to expire; this would cause an error message to appear on any computer that tried to view the website.

        The problem is it is a very old website, we have had 2 intervening sites.  it was hosted by Virgin media who no longer do webhosting.   have had no luck with them.  just wondered if another way round it.  i dont have any administration information, the website in question was created at least 10 years ago and ceased to be in used approx 7 years ago i think and we dont have admin details.  does that make more sense?!

                If they once provided fee-based hosting, they may no longer be doing that, but they are still in business as an ISP, right?  And, clearly, the website is still alive and the URL indicates it being hosted by Virgin media.  However, it appears to have been hosted under a free hosting option, as indicated by the word "freespace" in the URL.  It's not uncommon for ISPs to provide some free disk space to their clients for hosting a personal website.   

                So, again, the website is still alive and, the way I see it, you no other choice but to work with Virgin media to get this resolved.  Surely, someone there in tech support is aware of this free web space that is, or formerly was, available to their customers for a personal website.

                    I think that may be the person whose name was used to create the account with Virgin Media, not an employee at Virgin Media.
