Problem with command prompt
« on: April 23, 2011, 04:03:41 PM »
Hi, I bought 2 imacs (recent models) from a guy, but they have passwords.   I bought a used dell usb keyboard, I was able to reset the password on one using the command prompt and everything went fine.  Then I tried to do it on the other one and when I get to the point where i have to type in the text, nothing that I am typing shows up, almost as if it is frozen in the command prompt..  Any ideas on what the problem could be , could it be because it is not an apple keyboard, i find that wierd because it worked on one of them, and the mac is obviously seeing the keyboard because I get to the command prompt using the windows button +s at the same time.  Any help would be appreciated.

It would make things easier if you would give the model number of the MACs and which Operating system. And why would the vendor not give you the passwords? And why don't you use an Apple keyboard?
