My mother needs a computer without the "bells and whistles".  All she wants to do is be able to play games and look things up on the internet.  I have a chance to purchase a refurbished HP Pavilion all-in-one Athlon II 4GB desktop computer and was wondering if it would be a good buy for her.

Athlon II 1.66 GHz? The weakest Athlon II runs at 2.81 GHz, if i recall correctly... If I were you i'd get the athlon II 240 2.81 GHz and 2 GB RAM. And the hard drive is too large.

Those specs are fine and, if looked after, will last her for quite a few years.
