i didn't do a backup for my computer and when i opened my local disk(d) i was shocked because some of my files were gone !~!
And they are very very verrrrrrrrrry important and i need them ..how can i restore them

okay i'm sorry i didn't know where to write
but honestly i know nothing more than this i just opened my PC ,,opened my local disk to check my files and suddenly there's nothing !! and i don't even know why !!

i ignored Windows Updates and Backup...could be that the problem

okay that's what i did

Computer > Local Disk (D:) > My Folder (Yara) > and some files are missing my folder size was more than 10 GB and now it's 2.4 GB !!

I'm going to ask one more time and then I'm done. You are providing one sentence responses and I still have no idea what we are talking about.

1) WHAT is supposed to be on d: drive?
2) What is "My Folder (Yara)"? And What is SUPPOSED to be in there? Is this the only folder with a problem?
3) WHAT files are missing?
4) Do you have an anti virus app?
5) What other drives are on your system, what is on them, and are they intact?
7) What is new or different since the last time everything worked properly (ie, new hw, new sw, virus, error, etc)?

1) everything (i'm a photographer ) all my photos on it ,,all my files contains photos and there's also the ps cs5 but only the photos are missing

2) it's my file ,,,all my work the photos ,,,yes only
3)files of my photos
4) yes i have avast
5) i have 2 hard disk drives (d) and (c) the problem in (d) and i have DVD RW drive and yes they are intact
7)mmm nothing but when i search for the files that they are missing i find it but when i click on it it gives a msg says : the item"Humans" that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly ,,do you want to delete this shortcut ?

that's on the search but when i open my folder i don't find the shortcut ,, and i didn't change or move anything !!

i know it's hard i'm not even helping myself !! 'Coz i don't know what happened !! and thank you very much for replying

Look in Recycle Bin.
Look in C-Drive.
Search entire D-Drive.
Search entire C-Drive.

i searched every where and there's nothing !!!

i can't delete 10 GB !!!

Please run full system scans with both Avast (make sure the definitions are current) AND with MalwareBytes. Files don't just disappear. Either you did something, someone else at your system did something, or something malicious is on your system.

You can also download and run "unhide.exe", though I don't think it will help since you say the space has been reduced by the size of the files that are missing.

hi,
I know how desperate you must feel. I have had a similar disaster happen. The only solution that I had was to spend some money and visit a qualified computer guy who for a fee, fixed it for me. We had a power surge while I was working on the particular folder and it had shuffled it off to somewhere in the computer where I couldn't locate it. sorry I can't give you anymore helpful suggestions.

whenever you delete something its only marked for deletion. its only actually deleted when its overwritten. so the more stuff you do after an accidental deletion the less likely to get your stuff back.

try recuva

Actually Recuva is a good option to try. Please follow the instructions in blackbelt's post above and give Recuva a shot. Let's see if the files were deleted and are recoverable.
