My computer won't turn on!

My computer was working just fine, then one day, I couldn't turn it on.  The fans work but there is no image on the monitor and no power to the mouse or keyboard.  The "on" light is on, but the fans seem to be the only other thing working.  Another site told me to reset the CMOS by pulling a piece off of two pins then putting it on another two, then putting it back but that didn't work and I hope it didn't screw it up even more.  Can anyone help me? I really don't want to take it to the repair shop if I don't have to.  Thanks!

In order for someone to help you diagnose your problem, they are going to need as much information about it. Detailed is much better.

Describe the problem exactly. When did it start?
Did you add any new hardware to the system? If so, what?
Did you install any software before? If so, what?
Are the lights flashing and if so, what is the sequence?
When trying to boot up your PC, are there any beep sound?
