Dialog box doesn't show up when loading a game or a cd. PLEASE HELP!

Hi there,
I currently own an Acer Aspire 5570z laptop. And my os: Windows Vista
It's kind of hard to explain but I will make it as simple as possible.

When I load any cd or game disk - especially Sims 2, no dialog box comes up like it used to. (as it did use to come up)
A dialog box comes up when I'm uploading photos though, and it comes up with a box of several things I can do to load those photos
As I must have pushed a button of some sort as it won't do anything anymore.
e.g: when I place a disk in you can hear it load but nothing comes up. - completly blank.

Please help me, thanks so much for your time.

Try using same discs on another PC with a good working optical drive first. Try any DVD,VCD or CD format discs or files to check whether its your drive thats faulty or not.
