    Malware - 2 Dell laptops
    « on: August 22, 2011, 08:57:33 AM »
I have 2 Dell laptops (1- vista, 1- windows 7) both started crashing repeatedly several weeks ago. Each time, on both laptops the error message has been in regard to external hardware. Yet, neither has had any external media connect at the time of the respective crashes.  Each laptop has had 2 new hard drives (both are still warrantied) in the past 3 weeks. The problem persists.

I am not able to run hijack this on either. It downloads but each download brings an error. I tried to put the hijack this file on a jump drive and still wasn't able to install it.

There is definitely something wrong with both as my settings on the firewalls are constantly changing to allow programs I've never heard of inbound access to the machines. Also, I can not access my router.. not on the web utility or through the software that came with it. There are several other anomalies on each machine.

    Will you please help me?

    Thanks.

Hi and welcome to Computer Hope!

In order for someone to help you diagnose your problem, they are going to need as much information about it. Detailed is much better.

What error messages are showing on the screen? Try to be as exact as you can be.

The cause of the problem might be from the new hard drives. What hard drive brand do you have? What model? How big is the hard drive?
