Cannot find USB device on computer
« on: September 02, 2005, 10:08:14 AM »
I am using Windows 2000 and have plugged in an external harddrive into my USB port.  Although the bar at the bottom of the screen reads it and allows me to "unplug or eject hardware" I cannot seem to find the location of the device on the computer, to save files to it (even from Microsoft Word).  Where can I look to try and find the device?

Does this happen to be an FHD2-Pro?

You may need to do the following:

  • Connect (the additional) USB power cable
  • Tilt the HDD when you plug in the USB data cable until Windows reads it.
  • Connect the device to USB 2.0 (Hispeed) ports if available.

Windows can read the device on the taskbar, I just cannot locate it in "My Computer" or on the Desktop.
(I don't know what an FHD2-Pro is)

An external Hard Disk Drive sold by Freecom, your issues are the same I have. The above mentioned list helps solve them.

You will need to format the external hard drive before it will show in My Computer. Right click on My Computer>Manage>Disk management>the external; hard will show there right click then format you can fomate NTFS or FAT32 if running Windows XP go for NTFS after formatting the drive will now show in My Computer folder
