Looking for a multimedia desktop, suggestions?
« on: October 29, 2011, 01:57:11 PM »
Hey guys...

I am looking for a Desktop for my parents. They want to use it mainly for video and photo editing as well as other multimedia tasks.

I am looking at a few options. Their price range varies depending on what they get but I think $900 is cut off. They are even looking at a Mac. What are pros and cons for a Mac here?  :D

I am looking at the following 3 computers, what do you think is best?

Are any of these options significantly worse then the others?
A little input here would be wonderful, thanks y'all.  ;)

I'm just curious why it needs to be a desktop system.  There are quite a few good solid large screen laptops that you can get for that price range.
Evil is an exact science.

I'm a Dell fan. You get a quality system with quality parts and they have all sorts of deals running during the course of a month. Take a look at their site.

Without knowing the ages of your parents/their current computer proficiency/what is likely to be their future development in computer skills/ and a more defined explanation of what this constitutes "They want to use it mainly for video and photo editing as well as other multimedia tasks." my initial impression is that is a very high upper limit as to what they seem to be prepared to pay for what given your displayed choices will offer to them in terms of the technology they contain. They seem to be more in the realm of what "gamers" would want. Very excellent computers are available for far less than that (both desktops and laptops). truenorth

Do your parents have some experience using a computer for those tasks or are they new to such doing such tasks on a computer?  Are they thinking about some business or professional use of a computer or would this be for personal enjoyment?

Do you know what software they may want to use?  And, what are the system requirements for that software?

I'm thinking many computers on the market, some well below $900, would be adequate but, again, answers to above questions would shed more light on this.
