java plug-in keeps trying to install
    « on: October 31, 2011, 01:28:01 PM »
I am having a problem of java saying i need a plug-in at a particular site i need to access (an applet pops up if i have the plug-in) each time i visit the site,  it says i need to install a java plug-in, even though its already on my computer. i f i click yes install it installs and then when i go to the site again it asks me the same thing. i know the java version i need is already on my computer. i have uninstalled all traces of java and re-installed anew, but i am still having this problem.
i have another computer (older) that i succesfully went to the site on and it installed the needed plug-in once, and that was it. so i know that something is up with just this computer, but i can't figure out what.

i even went back to ie6 (same as the other computer that i can connect with) but still had the same problem of java wanting to install the plug-in that was already there...what in the world is going on

Make sure Java is enabled on all browsers. Post the site to check here.

yes congratulations i have java. but i already knew that.
i think you have to be on this network to connect to the ip. it is for environmental control access

i just can't figure out why one computer will connect properly and the other keeps asking to install java and then telling me i already have it installed.

scratchin my head on this one

thinking out loud: it must have something to do with the security settings. the site sees that the java isn't working, so it thinks i need the plug-in. then when it tries to install it sees it and tells me its already installed. (but just not running?) so i guess i'll start looking at the security settings..

okay turned off kaspersky, enabled all active x stuff, lowest security settings, and made the ip a trusted site, but it still says i need the plug-in and then tells me its already installed and asks if i would like to re-install it...grrr

          Have you also tried:
          1. An alternate browser.
          2. Safe mode with networking.
          3. Sign on with a different user account.
(Grete a new account and see what happens.)

Maybe posting the actual site would help here.

i thuoght about trying safe mode w/networking, but couldn't reason how that would work. i'll try it though.
the java plugin request pops up before i actually can attempt to log in, so the user accounts wouldn't matter

                HOORAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I figured it out!
I thought i had been thorough in removing all java, but if something is running java it can't be removed, so what happened was jre running and so was left in program files...
the way i discovered i was on the right track i ran windows installer cleaner (or something like that), and then the java would try to install anew but gave me an internal error regutils.dll 2753...from that i determined for sure that all java wasn't being removed.
when i pulled the plug on the jre, and deleted it i went to the site and the new java installed with no regutils.dll error, and i then could log in and access site
