Problem with graphics in Windows 98
« on: September 17, 2005, 03:54:31 PM »
Today when I started to computer the icons were at least 3X the size they usually are and the graphics on my wallpaper and online where very grainy.  I did get an error message on startup (once out of the 3 times I restarted).  It was "there is a problem with your display settings.  The adapter type is incorrect or the current settings do not work with your hardware".   I reset the display settings and it helped a bit, but things still aren't great.   I have no idea what this means.  I would appreciate any suggestions.

Videocard drivers need reinstalling.

How have they become corrupted? What have you done?

This is probably a stupid question, but how do I do that?  I checked for updates on the Microsoft site and there were no current updates available.

Remove the video card from your device manager.

    Right click My Computer>Properties>Hardware>Device Manager.

Re-boot & allow Windows to detect your video card & install the drivers for you.

If you feel adventurous you can also download & install the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website.

First, we need to know the name of your videocard and the model.

Second, we need to know the operating system you are using.

Thanks for your help.  I actually got it figured out.  It was in the settings after all.  I had the colour set to 252 colours, and I reset it to 16 bit and now it is fine.
