    windows 98 boot error

    if recieving bad or missing file error message on starup why should I verify that the config.sys and autoexec.bat files are present ?

    They are needed to boot into Windows...

    They are needed to boot into Windows...

    Neither autoexec.bat, nor config.sys are required to boot into Windows 98.

    However, the "bad or missing command interpreter" or "error in config.sys Line XXX" errors can indicates problems in one or both files.

    I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.
