Recover pictures from the harddrive
« on: January 28, 2012, 06:54:14 PM »
Hi guys and gals.  A friend asked me to retrieve some pictures from his Dell computer which won't boot. I thought I could slave the harddrive to my pc and save the pictures but the Western Digital connection is not the same as what's on my pc. Is there an adapter available for this type of harddrive? When I boot the computer I get a black screen saying that there is a hardware or software problem and recommends I do a "Launch Setup Repair". I hit enter and it just comes back to the same message. I can choose "start Windows Normally" but it just goes to a black screen. I ran a diagnostic on the harddrive and it passed. I also ran a Memtest86 on the RAM which also passed the test. I have a Recovery Disk but I'm more concerned with saving the pictures first. Any ideas?

Something like this.
Thanks aussie11. It's not quite that same configuration but it doesn't matter now. I was able to boot the computer using the OTLPE.iso rescue disk to save all the pictures. Now it just a matter of re-formatting and re-installing the OS.
