Firsts of all, how did you manage to get five PCs on one network connection?  Does that one PC have a "bridge" connection?

Have you verified that the switch is not damaged?

With a switch, not a router, static IP address is required. Unless DHCP  is available.

On eBay you might shop for a:
Linksys EtherFast 8-Port 10/100 Wired Router for under $50 used in good condition.

On the computers that are displaying the message"limited or no connectivity" from the icon for the connection on the task bar beside the clock  right click on the icon. In the produced window select repair. When completed close the window. WARNING this may only last for the current session that the computer(s) are on. truenorth

      WHAT THIS PRODUCT DOES
      The DES-1105 is a 5-port 10/100Mbps Ethernet switch.
By  connecting  the  DES-1105  to  your  router,  you  can
add  up  to  four  computers  or  other  Ethernet-based
devices  to  your  home  network.  Add  a  print  server,
Network-Attached Storage (NAS) or network camera
and experience the benefits of networking.
The modem takes on of the ports.
Unless the has a bridge, which he has yet to clarify.

He did not fully explain how the system works, when it does work. You don't run five PCs from that switch. Unless you have a bridge.  He needs to test the switch. And the bridge.
        The answer could be:
        A. The bridge is broken
        OR
        B. The switch is broken

That fits the case where on PC works and the others do not. The modem does not go to the switch, it noes to then first PC. The failure is between then first PC  modem and the switch.
Using static IP just masks the problem. But indicts the issue is in the bridge. Ned to fix the bridge.
The four PCs can not get to the modem, which does the IP assignments.

        This is for Windows XP:

Yes, I am sorry. If the OP is still there. Hope he will let us know if he has been able to repair the network bridge. The bridge is also called 'network sharing' in bother places.
