characters changed after system restore

I have a tempermental power lead which keeps causing my laptop to turn off unexpectedly. It did this morning then went on to do a system restore. When it came back on all the files were still intact but all the letters have changed to shapes. Even when i go online it stays the same. Would appreciate any help at all.

Are you sure its the lead? If the lead is 'temperamental' then the laptop should switch to the battery. It shouldn't the laptop to turn off.
