3rd party dialer- hijacking my comp-xxxhot
« on: July 10, 2004, 04:02:15 PM »
Hello, I have a major problem!  Anywhere between 10-25 times a day, a pop-up appears called xxxhot then it disconnects my internet provider and dials up its own premium rate one.

Every time this happens i uninstall it straight away then remove the dialer from  my dial up options.  It makes no difference,  a few minutes later it does it all again automatically on its own.  I have got norton antivirus and premedius firewall, yet it still does it with these running.  Im at my wits end and dont know what to do, i even contacted the company and they told me to just uninstall it, and were unhelpfull when i told them it makes no difference, PLEASE could anyone help me!

Joe...sounds like a nasty one and potentialy expensive.
    Read this...
    http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000578.htm

    I would suggest D/l .....Ad-Aware 6 build 181  ( free)
                                   .....SpyBoot S&D    ( free)
                                   .....Hijackthis    (free)
                                   .....cwshredder ( free)
The download links are listed in the link above........
    I would suggest :
    1. run a virus scan with your current updated anti virus.
    2. run Ad-aware ....quarantine or delete all that it finds.
    3. run SpyBot ....and fix anything it finds.
Then if you still have the problem.....Run Hijack this and save the log and post it here for us to look at. We should be able to help .

    Good Luck

If you don't know the answer, it isn't a dumb question.
