RS232 port & eprom Programmer

is a RS232 port the same as my 9 pin com port?
if I wanted to make software ROMs for my 8-bit bbc micro, what would kind of eprom programmer would I use?
I'm a complete n00b in this field.

    RS232 is a standard serial port. The type of eprom programmer you need depends on the type of chip(s) you plan to  program. Some will accept several different types and some will only accept specific types. You will need to research this for yourself.
    If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything.
