I believe we need an explanation from the O/P as to WHY we are still continuing this discussion when in reply one member DaveLembeke stated this "The CD came from an Emachine

Just a FYI, this CD was only intended to be used legally with the original computer that it came with. Lots of the CD's that came with builds like this will only install on certain hardware identification eMachines, and will fail to install on others as an anti-piracy feature."

Notwithstanding all the other elements that have been introduced to the best of my observation this still remains.truenorth

Ok, so the emachine cd won't work, period.

The only question I have now is, if the computer can't find the drive it wants to read the cd, was that the EM cd or it just can't be changed? I would say the latter on this machine.

I am not sure why it states both 32 and 512, and I guess it doesn't matter. I can check  later if you like.

I would try another cd (any will work, doesn't have to be an OS cd) to see if the computer recognizes the drive and plays/shows the contents of the cd. If so, then the issue was not with the drive itself.

        Sounds good to me.
