I Did It! My First Build
« on: July 10, 2011, 09:32:45 PM »
I was on the verge of buying a pc from QVC. I'm on a limited budget and was going this route so I could make 5 monthly payments. It was nice, i7 2600 with 16gb of ram +, but my efforts to find out the brand of the components inside were not going very well.
While I was researching, an email from Newegg came in and had a combo kit that was $400 dollars cheaper than OVC's. I decided to step out on a limb and order this in one big payment.
I think it's the best decision I could have made. Here are the specs:

Cooler Master HAF 912 Case
Gigabyte GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3 Motherboard
Intel i7 2600k 3.4GHZ CPU
Cooler Master GX Series 750w SLI Ready 80 Bronze Certified PSU
Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB 240 pin DDR3 1866 PC3-15000 Ram
Seagate Barracuda Green ST1500DL003 1.5 TB 5900 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s HardDrive
EVGA GeForce GT 430 128 bit DDR3 PCI-E 2.0 x16 Video Card
Lite-On 24X DVD Burner
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit OS

I have seen many people come to CH chat for help with problems while building their pc. I did a lot of research and asked a lot of questions and I (knock on my head) got it right the first time. :P   I'm ready to build another, send me the parts and I'll do it for free! I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Hope this isn't my last build.

I'll see about some pic and/or videos later.

I have a link to the parts of my build. Let me see if it'll work.

Yep, it seems to work.  :D

Looks good and congrats on the new system. Didn't watch your full video, but interesting way of listing your specs. Personally found just reading your specs in your first post the easiest.

There's nothing better than that moment of anxiety before you press the "POWER" button followed by relief when the fan starts spinning! Plus you can casually mention to friends "Oh yes I built my own PC"  8)

yes I too have made my own desktop.
first i started with a hp case and some cheap new components.
then i upgraded the case to an antec mid case.
then i upgraded the mb to a full size asus military quality mb.
every time i made a big change i was soooo worried that i had done something wrong and when i started it would all go up in smoke.......BUT it dident.
only had a few compatibility issues with my wifi opions that i bough(i thing i bought 3 and the last worked) but everything alse went well.
but u need to remember not to but cheap parts like psu as a cheap suppliers quiet will be allot noisier than a good suppliers quiet is.

Nice video. That's a first for me, never seen sound activated cathode lights. :) Well done.

Great job!  Did you find it allot easier than you originally thought?

WOW, I've not been to this post in ages, but was looking around the forum and noticed Quantos posted the last reply. I did not think I'd ever seen a post on this topic from anyone named Quantos, so I went to check it out.

Sure enough I'd never seen it. Somehow I did not get a notification of his post(or I missed it)

Anyway Quantos, I can tell you I was amazed how it all went so smoothly. However, I'd asked quite a few questions at CH chat, and watched some videos at newegg.com while I was waiting for all the bits to arrive. So I was well primed when I got my hands on the bits to start building her.  ;D

She's still running like a top a little over(or close to) a year and a half.  :D
Thanks for asking, and if you see this, sorry it took so long for me to reply  :-[
