    winrar and or winzip will not open files

    I have windows 8 pro on a 64 bit Hp pavilion . I installed WinRAR, and tried 7zip can,not open files with either program. what would be my problem ?

    Are these zip files password protected, or do you get any error messages to help further in diagnosing the issue?

      I am getting a pop up (the archive is either in unkown  format or damaged) and no archives found

      More info...
      Such as where are these zip files from ? ?...what are they? ?...etc.
